Macro: the spiral of a single baked roll before it is iced, the cinnamon in the fold caught in a shallow depth of field, everything behind it fallen away to brown.

There’s only the latest perfect, the best you’ve made so far, until the day you make one better.

Twelve

One of them got the plate, the key light and the first frame of the film. The rest of the tray is most of the work. No two of them are the same — the icing sits differently, the cinnamon lands differently, the swirl opens differently. Eleven of them are fine.

The recipes were drawn, not typeset. Nothing is ruled, nothing is square.
